School is where you go to learn about the world around you, both near and far, but it is also where you can make friends, take up interests and find out what you are good at.
School can be hard sometimes, school can be fun. What is school like for you? What do you like best, what do you not like so much?
If you didn’t or don’t speak English that well, did that make school more difficult? If so, what help did you get from teachers and support staff?
Can you compare school in Scotland with school in your country?

I think the schools in UK are great because the teachers are very good. They are good at teaching you. They also help you out with a lot of things that you don’t know about.

School is good because practice writing. My writing is not good and here I can practice a lot. I meet friends and go to the cinema with them. I go to the Bilingual Support Unit at Shawlands Academy. Yesterday we showed a film we made ourselves, all pupils at the bilingual support unit. We showed it for Refugee Week. Everything is good here, in my country (Afghanistan) there is a lot of fighting.

I am in all saints secondary school and there are bad guys who fight andfighting is bad. I don’t like bad guys. Sometimes in PE one day a girl went to the toilet and two girls stand behind the door. Then the girls pushed the door and I told them I wanted to go through the door. Then they got away from the door and the girl got out and she asked me who was holding the door. After that, I told them who it was. The girl who was inside the toilet said to them she wanted to fight them after school

I’m in all saints R.C secondary School. I like my school because there is very nice teachers and they are very hard. I’ve got 7 periods. I don’t like fighting and bad students. My favourite subject is Maths and English, and I want to learn English very well, because I want to speak with my family and my friends.

My school is good. But I can’t understand everything. I’m very bored in the class because I don’t understand. I’m not very good at any subject because I can’t read English. I like some of my teachers. My problem is that I get bored when I don’t understand and stop listening and then the teacher gets angry. I respect my art teacher very much.
I want to study and learn a lot and improve my learning. I wasn’t able to go to school in Afghanistan and I can’t write this is why school is difficult for me. I can understand six languages and read one, but I can’t write any or read.
I came to Glasgow six months ago.

I’m happy when I go to school. At home, I’m not happy. In the holidays I go out to the park and do something different every day.

I am not a big fan of school, not as efficient as i’d like it. I live in australia and most of class time is wasted doing nothing or doing pointless activities. They sure love busywork. I have written a fair bit about it at statementofviews.blogspot.com and I think school is not as good for me as others would think so.

I like school, reading, studying English. I like the teachers because I came to Glasgow and I’m very happy. In Afghanistan I didn’t go to school. Now in Glasgow I go to school. When I first came to school I didn’t understand or speak English. Now I undestand English a little bit. It is good for me.
